Pediatric Occupational Therapist

Dedicated to serving pediatric populations, Ashley Kotchin shares, “It is so rewarding for me to be a part of each child’s journey and get to learn about what makes each child unique.”

After Ashley Kotchin completed her undergraduate studies in kinesiology with a primary concentration in exercise science, she went on to complete a doctoral degree in occupational therapy at Mary Baldwin University in Virginia (2017).

Ashley’s life-long love of sports has translated into a passion for supporting adaptive sports programs for individuals with disabilities. Ashley’s doctoral research focused on how non-profit adaptive sports organizations serve the needs of individuals with disabilities.

At Sportable, an outreach program based in Richmond, Virginia, Ashley managed an adaptive rock-climbing program while also assisting with wheelchair basketball, swimming, and tennis programs. She also supported road racing and running programs for individuals with visual impairment.

In Ashley’s words, “Adaptive sports provide a really neat opportunity for kids of all ability levels to come together and learn about teamwork, gain confidence, and make lifelong friends.” She has seen firsthand how adaptive sports programs improve the quality of life for individuals with disabilities.

Prior to joining the Children’s Therapy TEAM family as a licensed occupational therapist, Ashley completed her doctoral graduate fieldwork under the supervision of Children’s Therapy TEAM Occupational Therapists, Mary Claire Tuinstra and Lynette Wheeler.

Ashley Kotchin is one of six siblings in her family and grew up in Northern Virginia. When not working, Ashley enjoys reading, playing with her dog Rufus, playing sports, and exploring NWA hiking trails.
