Counselors & Psychologists 

 

There are a number of mental health professionals in Northwest Arkansas that have served TEAM clients and families in the past. They have provided services ranging from mental health therapy to psychological assessments/IQ tests (sometimes required for diagnosis and/or funding).

Below we have listed several local counselors and psychologists. Additionally, we have highlighted counselors, psychologists and psychiatrists who have been recommended by members of TEAM or referred from developmental specialists (*see asterisks).  

Providers who accept Medicaid

Center for Children – UAMS Schmieding Developmental Center* offers psychological assessments/IQ testing as well as assessments in specialty areas such as: failure-to-thrive, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, speech and language, school performance, autism, intellectual disability and cognitive development. Psychologist Dona VanKirk offers psychological assessment/IQ testing, rehabilitation counseling and services for personal growth/identity issues, coping with grief, loss, pain and life transition counseling. She accepts Medicaid for patients under the age of 18. Dr. VanKirk does accept Medicaid. (479 466-9609 (Fayetteville) 

Mindworks offers on-sight school and daycare observations. They provide services to individuals with developmental delays, attachment difficulties, sensory issues, learning and attention deficits and more. They discuss with clients the pros and cons of medication and offer alternatives. (479 587-8921(Fayetteville) www.mindworksnwa.com 

Ozark Guidance Center is a large non-for-profit mental health center. They offer psychological evaluations/IQ testing as well as a wide range of counseling support services for individuals and families.  The center accepts Medicaid. (479 750-2020 www.ozarkguidance.org (Springdale, Fayetteville, Bentonville, Huntsville, Berryville, Siloam Springs).                                          

Providers who do not accept Medicaid

Center for Psychology* offers psychological evaluations/IQ Tests, treatment of children and adolescents with serious or chronic medical conditions, IEP planning and teacher training, family therapy, couple’s therapy and group therapy. Center for Psychology and Counseling* offers psychological assessments/IQ Tests, psycho-educational services and behavioral therapy for children, adolescents, young adults and families. Clinical and Community Psychology and Counseling Associates offers behavior therapy for children, couple’s therapy, family therapy, and services to support parenting for children with health problems. The clinic does not accept Medicaid. ( 479 442-2457 (Fayetteville) Psychologist: Frances Woods   

Encompass Health offers psychological evaluations/IQ testing, therapy and consultative services. Focuses on helping children, adolescents and their families. Does not accept Medicaid. (479 271-8778 (Bentonville) www.encompasshealth.net Psychologists: Dr. Billy Jones and Lisa Fitzgibbons*.

Northwest Counseling* offers marriage counseling, counseling by twos, abuse counseling, grief counseling, Christian counseling as well as counseling in Spanish for adolescents through adults. Psychologist Terry Efird offers psychological assessment/IQ testing, ADHD assessment, learning disability assessment, services for mood disorders (depression and self-esteem), anxiety disorders, trauma-related difficulties, substance abuse problems, domestic violence and anger control problems. Does not accept Medicaid. ( 479 751-7074 (Springdale)

Psychology and Counseling Associates offer psychological assessment/IQ testing, short-term, problem-focused therapy for troubled families, difficult children, hyperactive students, rebellious teens, depressed adolescents, high-risk youth, worried parents, & distressed couples. The Joshua Center offers services to address behavioral health while also recognizing a family and/or individual’s spiritual wellbeing. Licensed therapists and marriage and family counselors assist patients suffering from depression, anxiety, marital difficulties, parent-child issues and other individual and family concerns (adopting families, military families, spouses with struggling marriages).
